In 2024, esteemed criminologist and former Detective Superintendent, Dr Vincent Hurley, delivered a compelling keynote. Drawing from his extensive career in law enforcement and academia, he challenged conventional narratives by urging society to reconsider the term "domestic violence."

Dr Hurley emphasised that this language perpetuates the misconception that violence against women and children only happens behind closed doors, when in fact it is a pervasive societal issue.
